Brief Description

Trade card of Carbonnier, master glass-maker (maître vitrier), At the Grand Clock-face, dated 1716. Both the image and the text are engraved. The card consists of a representation of the shop sign, and a text area. The whole is bordered by a frame decorated with connected circles and beads, with acanthus leaves in each corner. This is surrounded by a thin rule.

The representation of the shop sign takes up the upper-half of the card. The circular clock face, with Roman numerals, has a dial decorated with a twelve pointed star. The hands of the clock are decorated with a fleur-de-lis and a crescent moon shape. The clock-face is surrounded by four fleurs-de-lis and arabesque leaf scrolls set on a background of horizontal parallel lines.

The representation of the shop sign is separated from the text area by a thin rule. The text and image areas are bordered by a rule that is thick on the upper and left sides.
